What is the South Down Project?
The Shoreham Cement Works has been an eyesore for decades, and most people think that something should be done to improve it. The dilemma is: what?
Right now, there is a unique opportunity for the local communities, the stakeholders, and anyone else who cares about what happens in the Shoreham Chalk Pit, to make their voice heard.
The South Down Project is a group of locals who think this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bring a world class development to our area.
Why now?
The South Downs National Park are currently preparing their plan to submit to the Government. The Government are trying to find places to build new homes. The Local Authorities are trying to boost their economies, and the new National Planning Policy Framework promises more power for local people.
Why should you bother?
Maybe you’re happy leaving decisions about the development of sensitive National Park areas to the Planners, or the Developers, or to anonymous Investors - if that’s you, then fine, move on. But if you think that what happens in a particularly beautiful part of the South Downs is best decided by you, then this could be your chance to have a say.
